Statutory Objective<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Introduction<\/strong>Young people face a social world that is changing rapidly. Adaptability and being able to switch gears quickly are crucial skills here. This is much more difficult for young people with autism – they want structure, repetition, predictability. Building a social life and finding connection with others becomes a lot harder because of this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improvisational theater is a form of theater where no script is used. Yet it is based on a number of strategies that are very applicable for increasing the social flexbility of young people with autism. From being able to quickly build on each other’s ideas, to responding to the other person’s acted emotions, improvisation skills are equally applicable in everyday life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of the Foundation is:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • devising, developing and performing theater and improvisation programs forteens and young adults with autism and\/or other disabilities that present communicationchallenges;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • devising and developing theater and improvisation programs for parents of andfor schools and training institution for teens and young adults with autism and\/orother disabilities that present communication challenges;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The purpose of the Foundation is not to make a profit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    The Foundation seeks to accomplish its purpose by, among other things:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Offering improvisational theater courses by Boom ChicagoAcademy trainers at the Boom Chicago Theater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Offering improvisational theater courses by Boom ChicagoAcademy trainers at special education schools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Speaking publicly about this specific target group;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Advising third parties, engaging other experts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Outline Policy Plan Inter-Acting and Activities.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      Mission&Vision<\/strong>InterActing originated from the ambition of Saskia Maas and Pim Donkersloot to apply the lessons learned from, respectively, running improvisational theater Boom Chicago in Amsterdam and running the organization ChildCenter, which offers treatment and guidance to children on the autistic spectrum, to the specific target group of adolescents aged 12 to 25. Both founders have children on the autism spectrum themselves, so they have gained a lot of experience and knowledge about the social life of young people with autism. Now the ambition is to use that knowledge and experience for an organization where, through a hands-on approach, the social skills of children with autism are enriched. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

        \n
      • There are 8-week courses for which young people can register.The groups are deliberately kept small, so a maximum of 14 participants per course. Thecourses are bilingual, in English and Dutch. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Programs are offered at special education high schools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Contributions are made to conferences and meetings in which knowledge and experienceare shared.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Work is underway to establish the Julia Award, an annual prize to be presentedto a young person with a distinct talent in the arts and culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
